Valle Caldera National Preserve Sunset. The crater was created about 1.25 million years ago by a dramatic eruption that created this spectacular 13-mile wide depression. The preserve is known for its huge mountain meadows, abundant wildlife, and meandering streams. Located in the Jemez mountains in northern New Mexico, this image is presented in a color, horizontal format.
